Chip Arnold Invites You To Come Home

Welcome To The Mountains!

Union County has been my home for thirty four years and I can't imagine a more ideal place to have raised my children. Here we have the best of everything; friendly people, beautiful mountains, streams, a climate that's close to perfect and over 97,000 acres of protected U.S. Forest Service land.
When I first came to Blairsville, I became fascinated with the indigenous mountain music still being played by the local old timers. That was more than thirty years ago and I've been playing old time mountain banjo ever since. My wife Tish and I travel to many southeastern music festivals every year sharing the music with others and helping to keep this art form alive.
Mountain arts, crafts and old time skills are of interest to me and I've tried my hand at everything from building a log cabin with the aid of period hand tools to organic gardening and the preservation of food by the old time methods of drying, canning and pickling. Here's a link to the John C. Campbell Folk school
http://www.folkschool.org/
which is just over the line in Brasstown, N.C. In constant operation since the earliest days of the twentieth century, this school is a treasure trove of information, classes and community events for anyone yearning for a renewed connection to the simpler verities of life.
When my kids were younger we learned to raise, break and train horses together. Now they are passing the love of animals and the skills needed to work with them, on to my grandkids. In a world where our youngsters are subjected to so many distractions, these passtimes and interests are still helping young folks to develop values and strengths that will stay with them always.
If you'd like to rediscover a sense of community and belonging in an area still abundant in peace and quiet, give me a call. I'd be happy to answer your questions and help you in every way possible.
